EPL: Arsenal put title charge onus back on Man City with Fulham winArsenal are back in front of Manchester City in a tight English Premier League title race with a 3-0 home victory ove Fulham that put them six points ahead with two more matches played.
Viktor Gyokeres’ first-half brace put the Gunners in control after which Bukayo Saka was also on target as Arsenal increased the pressure on City.
Arsenal now have 76 points from 35 games, followed by City who have 70 from 33 and play away at Everton on Monday.
“We showed a lot of authority, determination and composure. We brought a lot of energy to the stadium. It was a great performance,” said manager Mikel Arteta.
“It says to us and to our dressing room that we keep the dream alive.
“What these guys have done, not now but throughout the season, to win that many games in the circumstances that we had to do it, without so many players available at times, is remarkable.”
Arsenal were aggressive from the very start on Saturday and took an early lead at the Emirates Stadium, which boosted the players, Arteta said.
“When you feel that connection with them (the fans), we are much, much better. And I know that it has to come from us,” he said.
“It certainly came from us today but we need to do it somehow, even when the team is not giving it probably the right reasons.”
Arteta next game is their Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid at home on Tuesday, with the tie posed at 1-1 after the first leg.
“Use that momentum, energy, belief towards Tuesday. We’re going to certainly need that. When I look at the atmosphere in the dressing room, I think it’s striking in the right direction,” Arteta said.
