Van Halen legend Sammy Hagar has confessed the last words Black Sabbath's Ozzy Osbourne ever said to him, before the rocker's tragic death. Ozzy died in July 2025 of a heart attack brought on by complications from Parkinson's disease and coronary artery disease. Now, chatting exclusively with Daily Express, Sammy has shared what went down during their final conversation.
He explained: "It was just... Holding hands, you know, a handshake that ended up being more like a hand holding, looking each other in the eye. And he dropped the sunglasses down like this, and I dropped mine down, and we had a really nice look, and he said, 'thank you, mate, you know, for. For doing this', and I just said, 'oh, God, man, thank you for inviting me'.
"And I just told him what a beautiful spirit he is, and. How impressed I was at... He made this thing. There he was. He was gonna go do it."
Sammy went on: "Everyone who's betting against him, you know, all the musicians I know, they're going, you know that Ozzy's probably gonna pull out at the last minute. I mean, how can he do it? And he didn't. He friggin' did it. That's the highest bar anyone could raise... I have goosebumps all over my body right now. Look at that. My hair is standing up.
"That bar is... no one's ever gonna beat that one, and then die right afterwards. I mean, what a legend."
Speaking about Ozzy's contributions to rock and roll, he said: "It's amazing. I mean, it was really something that, you know, that's rock and roll history right there. I mean, that's like Woodstock, what happened there for the metalheads. That was the heavy metal Woodstock.
"And he talked to everyone. I mean, maybe not everyone, but I mean... He gave everyone the time. He sat there in that room, and we all walked in and gave him our love, kissed the ring, you know, might say.
"And, uh, he had time for everyone, and then... and he still had time to go up and do what he did. What a guy. That's a rock and roll star right there."
Sammy is returning to the UK after three decades for the Best of All Worlds tour, featuring a supergroup line-up. It will take over a London's British Airways ARC for a three-night residency, and tickets are on sale now.
