She was once the "other woman" in Charles and Diana's marriage - now the royal US State Visit has proved she's her own woman, while remaining a loyal, loved and skilled foil for the King. In the UK Camilla is steadily the eighth most popular member of the Royal Family, after Catherine, William, Anne, Edward, Charles, Sophie and Zara - Meghan is 12th and Harry 14th.
Many Brits probably quite like her but may not feel they really know her, but accept she is adored by King Charles and is his invaluable partner. But Americans enjoyed a new side of Camilla during the historic State Visit last week as - instead of just being quietly by his side - she threw herself into going solo.
And the US audience lapped it up on a scale royal insiders apparently could not believe as this was the country that adored Princess Diana, and revelled in moments such as her famously dancing with John Travolta at the White House.
GB News Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker said of the impression she left in the US: "Since marrying Charles, she has really done so much in terms of the public duty, and just kept calm and carried on. She hasn't got involved in any scandals, just on with the job quietly and with dignity. And I think people respect that."
But rather than 'accept' her for her public duty, the US surprisingly embraced Camilla - after she too embraced an American.
On April 29 the royal couple made a solemn visit to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City.
There they met Anthoula Katsimatides, whose brother, John, was working as a broker in the North Tower on September 11, 2001, who felt so emboldened she dared to ask the Queen for a hug.
She was surprised when Camilla said yes and gave her a huge squeeze. She said afterwards: "Anyone who thinks that the King and the Queen are not down to earth - nothing is further from the truth.
"I showed them my picture of John and Camilla said, 'Oh, he's quite a looker!'"
The couple listened as Anthoula told them about her late brother's beautiful smile, quirky personality and love for his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. She said to US media later: "They're so cool."
Then on her own Camilla paid a trip to the New York Public Library to highlight the importance of literacy - something she has been championing for years.
The cream of New York fashion society - many of whom have already fallen out of fallen foul of Meghan Markle - were there including actress Sarah Jessica Parker and former Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Camilla explained how books could open up the world saying: "The first Americans I knew and loved were the characters I met in my treasured children's novels: Little Women, What Katy Did, Charlotte's Web."
Dame Anna Wintour, now global chief content officer and artist director at Vogue publishers Conde Nast, had a bitter falling out with Meghan when in 2019 the Duchess of Sussex collaborated with then British Vogue editor Edward Enninful - Wintour's rival - on a 'Forces for Change' issue of the magazine.
Here royal supporter Dame Anna was visibly showing Meghan that she is now 'Team Camilla'.
In his book Spare - that netted Prince Harry a cool £20m-plus - he claimed that Camilla "sacrificed me on her personal PR altar", was "dangerous" and a "wicked stepmother". Harry did not hold back on his dislike for his father's love.
Now Queen Camilla has charmed her way above Harry and Meghan in the US and UK affections. The Sussexes must be fuming.
