On Saturday, Devjeet Saikia, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline among players and officials to uphold the integrity of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The governing body is contemplating stricter measures against teams that violate regulations. Saikia's remarks followed the imposition of fines on Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag and team manager Romi Bhinder for separate incidents during the IPL.

Speaking to reporters at the headquarters, Saikia stated, 'In our press release, we clearly mentioned that we are considering additional options to rein in teams that breach the rules. We will take action and are reviewing the various rules and conditions of the IPL regarding team conduct.'

Parag was fined ₹2.5 million after being caught vaping on camera, while Bhinder faced a ₹100,000 penalty for violating PMOA protocols by using a mobile phone in the dugout. Saikia remarked, 'It is essential for the team to maintain a certain level of discipline, not just the players or officials, to ensure that the IPL's image is never tarnished. We must make decisions to ensure this, and we will take action.'

In an email announcing the action against Parag, the board stated, 'BCCI is considering other options for strict action against teams, their officials, and players who violate rules to maintain the IPL's reputation.' When asked if the Punjab police had contacted BCCI regarding the complete ban on vaping under the 'Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act 2019', Saikia responded, 'No, there is no such situation.'

During a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder was caught on camera using a mobile phone in the dugout, leading to a ₹100,000 fine imposed by BCCI.
