Two tourists have died after plunging from a balcony in front of horrified passengers at the same airport within hours of each other. A 27-year-old Chinese woman and a 30-year-old Algerian man both fell to their deaths at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Friday.

Local police said the incidents, which took place just hours apart, are not believed to be related. Chilling footage is reported to have showed the 27-year-old woman sitting on a ledge in front of terrified bystanders moments before she fell. She is understood to have plunged at around 2.20pm on May 1, with authorities saying she had been "crying and screaming aggressively" just before her death. Security personnel and airport staff attempted to calm her, and one employee approached her before she suddenly moved and fell into a loading bay area. Emergency services rushed to the scene and treated her before she was taken to Putrajaya hospital. She was later pronounced dead at 5.09pm local time.

Police said she had been due to board a return flight to China on May 1. An investigation into her death is ongoing. Just hours later, at around 9.10pm, a 30-year-old Algerian man jumped from an outer balcony on the third floor of Terminal 2.

Police said he jumped in a suspected suicide attempt. A witness reportedly saw the man open his backpack before running towards a barrier and jumping over it.

Emergency services attended and he was taken to hospital for treatment, but he later died at 2.55am on May 2 after succumbing to his injuries.

Authorities have classified both incidents as sudden deaths and have urged the public not to speculate.
