A very sad news has come out from Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, where three District Reserve Guard (DRG) soldiers were martyred and one soldier was seriously injured in an IED blast. The incident took place near the border of Kanker and Narayanpur districts when the security forces team had gone out for de-mining, area domination and search operation.

According to the police, the team was working to locate and defuse the IED already laid in the area. Meanwhile, four soldiers suddenly got hit by an IED blast.

Inspector Sukhram Vatti, Constable Krishna Komra and Constable Sanjay Garhpale suffered serious injuries in this accident and were martyred on the spot. At the same time, another injured soldier, Constable Parmanand Komara, has been immediately sent to the hospital for treatment, where his treatment is going on.

Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattilingam said that based on information received from Maoist cadres who had surrendered in the last few months and other intelligence inputs, security forces have recovered and defused a large number of IEDs in the Bastar region. Hundreds of IEDs already hidden by the Maoists are still present in the area, which are being continuously searched and defused.

However, in this unfortunate incident on Saturday, when the police team was neutralizing an IED, it suddenly exploded, causing a major accident. According to officials, the matter is being investigated and other information to the incident is being collected.

On March 31, Chhattisgarh was officially declared free from Naxalism. After this, this is the first time that a major explosion to Naxal activities has come to light.

The landmines laid earlier by Maoists in the dense forests of Bastar region still remain a major threat to the security forces and the local people. Continuous campaigns are being run to remove these tunnels, but the risk still remains.
