Princess Diana ’s never-before-heard recordings are set to be released as part of a new docuseries. The recordings will reveal her relationship with the Crown and the breakdown of her marriage to Prince Charles.

On Thursday, the producers announced that the unreleased recordings made by Diana, the late Princess of Wales, are in the works. The three-part documentary series is set to air on 31 August 2027, 30 years after her tragic death in a Paris car crash. The series promises to tell the story of ‘the People’s Princess’ in her own words.

Princess Diana told her own version of her life in 1991 through secret taped recordings made with her close friend, surgeon Dr James Colthurst. These recordings formed the basis of Andrew Morton’s explosive 1992 book ‘Diana: Her True Story’. The five hours of unheard tapes, spread across three episodes, “will change public perception of Diana forever”, according to the makers. Love Monday TV has partnered with Morton and Colthurst to secure ‘full and exclusive access’ to those conversations decades after her 1997 death.

“This revelatory three-part docuseries restores authorship of one of the most scrutinised lives in modern history,” the production company said in a statement released on Thursday.

“Through the tapes, we come to know a resilient, perceptive and relatable young woman, finding herself in the brightest of global spotlights and navigating the challenges with grace, self-awareness and determination.”

Princess Diana’s role in Britain’s monarchy is unparalleled.

Princess Diana and the future King Charles III’s 1981 wedding was a global extravaganza of goodwill. However, it soon turned into a tabloid spectacle after cracks appeared in the fairytale. Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997 in a Paris tunnel, after speeding away from the paparazzi in a car, also sparked a public backlash in Britain that shook both the monarchy and the media. Since her death, less than one hour of the tapes has been heard by the public. Princess Diana spoke about meeting her husband for the first time and how their relationship developed. The upcoming tapes are said to unveil more intimate royal revelations. According to the producers, the tapes are a reminder that things could have turned out differently.

“We hear her infectious humour and twinkling laughter as she reveals the truth about life inside the most famous family in the world. But most importantly, we hear her dreams for a future that could have been: a new chapter in which Charles goes off into the sunset with (future Queen) Camilla, leaving Diana free to carve her own path,” the statement said.

Prince Charles III, the King of the United Kingdom, married Queen Camilla in 2005.

Meanwhile, the upcoming docuseries will also showcase the perspectives of Princess Diana’s inner circle, including her advisers, close friends, hairdresser, bodyguard and one-time royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter.
