Dandeli: A suicide case in Dandeli has taken a new turn after police arrested the wife of the deceased when she arrived for the funeral.

The deceased has been identified as Raghavendra Wadkar, a resident of Bombay Chawl area in the city. Police said he had left behind a death note naming his wife and mother-in-law as responsible for his death. His funeral was held on Friday at the Rudrabhumi cremation ground in Patel Nagar under police security.

Raghavendra was working in Malaysia and had returned to his hometown Dandeli a few days ago. Sources said he and his wife had been living separately for the past three to four years due to marital issues.

His wife and two children were staying at her parental home in Salakin Koppa village in Dharwad taluk. On Thursday afternoon, when no one was at home, Raghavendra allegedly first injured himself and later died by suicide by hanging at his house in Bombay Chawl.

Based on a complaint filed by Raghavendra’s brother, a case was registered at the Dandeli town police station. The body was shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem and later brought back to his residence on Friday morning.

The wife, children, and other family members came to the house on Friday afternoon to pay their last respects. Police had provided security to avoid any untoward incidents.

Officials said they have seized the deceased’s mobile phone and the death note for investigation. Raghavendra’s wife, Megha Raghavendra Wadkar, was arrested and later produced before a court.
