The Uttar Pradesh government has outlined a series of measures implemented in recent years aimed at improving women’s safety, highlighting initiatives in policing, judicial processes, and public outreach. The developments have been presented in the context of efforts undertaken during the tenure of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to official statements, steps such as the formation of Anti-Romeo squads, expansion of beat policing, and the launch of campaigns like Mission Shakti have been introduced to address crimes against women. Authorities also cited the establishment of fast-track courts and special courts under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to expedite the hearing of cases.

Officials stated that a total of 218 fast-track special courts have been set up over the years, with POCSO courts operational in all districts. These courts are expected to deliver judgments within a defined timeframe, aimed at reducing delays in cases involving women and children. Data shared by the government indicates changes in judicial outcomes, including an increase in charge sheet and conviction rates over time. The administration also pointed to the role of helpline services, particularly the 1090 women’s helpline, through which a large number of complaints have been addressed. Additionally, women police stations have been established across districts to improve accessibility and reporting mechanisms.

Other measures include the introduction of pink booths and dedicated patrolling units, as well as the use of surveillance systems under the Safe City project in urban centres such as Lucknow. These initiatives are intended to strengthen monitoring and response capabilities in public spaces. Officials noted that campaigns like Operation Shakti and Mission Shakti have also focused on awareness, training, and prevention, with thousands of personnel trained to address gender-related crimes. The measures are part of a broader strategy to improve law enforcement responsiveness and judicial efficiency.

The government stated that its approach aims to combine preventive measures, faster legal processes, and increased accessibility to support systems.
