In the thrilling match of IPL 2026 played on Friday at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Delhi Capitals fast bowler Kyle Jamieson’s aggressive celebration after taking the wicket of Rajasthan Royals’ young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi was overshadowed. He was found to be deserving of one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
Jamieson was found guilty under Article 2.5, which prohibits conduct that insults a player or provokes an aggressive reaction. After bowling Suryavanshi in the second over of the first innings, Jamieson was seen coming close to him and clapping loudly.
The IPL statement clarified that this behavior could have provoked the batsman. 15-year-old Suryavanshi had hit a four on the previous ball, then returned to the pavilion on the next ball. Jamieson accepted the punishment of match referee Rajeev Seth and was warned to exercise restraint in future.
Fans on social media condemned the actions of 31-year-old Jamieson, especially against the dashing batsman of IPL 2026. The aim of DC’s strategy was to get him out early.
In the match, RR captain Riyan Parag won the toss and chose to bat first. Parag’s 90 off 50 balls, Ferreira’s 47 off 14 balls and Jurel’s 42 runs off 32 balls resulted in a score of 225/6. DC scored 226/3 in 19.1 overs with Rahul (40 balls, 75), Nissanka (33 balls, 62) and Rana (17 balls, 33) winning by 7 wickets—their highest chase in IPL history.
This incident underlines the importance of sportsmanship.
