The Devil Wears Prada 2 box office day 1: Fashion, drama, and nostalgia returned to cinemas this week as The Devil Wears Prada 2 made its theatrical debut. Starring Meryl Streep,Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, the long-awaited sequel opened with a moderate but promising start at the Indian box office.

According to trade reports, the film collected Rs 3.80 crore net in India on its opening day across roughly 1,644 shows. Including paid preview screenings, the total India net collection has reached Rs 5.50 crore so far. The film’s gross earnings currently stand at about Rs 6.57 crore domestically.

Occupancy figures suggest that audience interest steadily increased as the day progressed. Morning shows recorded around 28.44 percent occupancy, which jumped to 54 percent in the afternoon. Evening shows remained strong at 53.44 percent, while night screenings saw a slightly lower but steady 47.78 percent turnout.

Despite the buzz around the sequel, the film faced stiff competition at the Indian box office. The historical drama Raja Shivaji, starring Riteish Deshmukh, dominated opening day collections with Rs 11.35 crore. The clash created a competitive theatrical landscape, particularly across metropolitan markets.

Directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the sequel reunites key members of the original cast while introducing a fresh ensemble. Streep reprises her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, the formidable magazine editor-in-chief, navigating new challenges in the evolving media world.

Alongside returning actors, The Devil Wears Prada 2 also features new faces, including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, and Lucy Liu. However, actor Adrian Grenier, who played Nate Cooper in the original film, does not appear in the sequel.

Produced by 20th Century Studios, the film expands the original story’s world while revisiting beloved characters. Executive producers for the sequel include Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt, Aline Brosh McKenna, and Wendy Finerman.
