New York. Taking a big step in the field of military technology, the US Defense Department (Pentagon) has signed an agreement with seven major tech companies. Under this deal, Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools will be included in the Pentagon’s classified network. This agreement is being considered as the beginning of a major change in global military strategy.
This high-profile agreement includes companies like SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Amazon Web Services and Reflection AI. Whereas Anthropic did not find a place in it, which has already been blacklisted by the Trump administration.
Experts believe that this move to directly link AI to military capabilities will alert major armies of the world, including Russia, China and India. Technological edge and quick decision-making capabilities may prove decisive in future wars. According to reports, Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent and Huawei in China are already working towards connecting AI with the defense sector.

Step towards AI-first force
According to the Pentagon, these AI tools will be used under legal and operational requirements. Its aim is to transform the US Army into an “AI-first fighting force” so that fast and accurate decisions can be taken in all areas such as land, sea, air, space and cyber.
Why was Anthropic out?
Until now, Anthropic’s cloud model was a key AI system in the Pentagon’s classified networks. But the Donald Trump administration distanced itself from the company after it refused to allow its AI systems to be used for all uses such as autonomous weapons and mass surveillance.
New opportunities for India
Amidst this global competition, new opportunities can also be created for India. Companies like Tata Group, Reliance Jio Platforms, Infosys, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra can strengthen their role in the defense AI sector. Apart from this, government initiatives like iDEX and DRDO can contribute significantly in this direction.
According to analysts, this new competition could make the global military balance multipolar in the times to come, where AI technology will be the biggest deciding factor.
