Bureau Prayagraj- There has been a huge increase in the prices of commercial LPG cylinders from today, Friday 1st May. The price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has now become Rs 3,071.50. The government has also increased the price of small 5 kg LPG cylinder by Rs 261. The increased rates on small cylinders are a direct blow to the poor and the working class due to inflation. However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG, petrol, diesel and kerosene.

Oil companies (Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum) announced this price revision on Friday. The increase will be applicable only to commercial use LPG cylinders and 5 kg cylinders. The price of domestic LPG (14.2 kg subsidized cylinder) will remain completely stable. Similarly, there has been no increase or decrease in the prices of petrol and diesel. But people on social media are expressing apprehension that after the results of five states are out, the government will also increase their prices.

Under the government’s subsidy policy, domestic LPG prices have been stable for the last several months. Petrol and diesel prices have also remained unchanged for a long time. Oil companies review the prices of LPG, petrol and diesel on the 1st of every month. Today’s revision is part of this monthly review.

The increase of Rs 261 on small cylinders is a direct attack on the working class. Now this cylinder will cost him around Rs 800. However, its rates will be different in different states. Generally, the labor class living in metropolitan cities works with this small cylinder. Because for big cylinder he has to provide Aadhaar, address and other documents. But smaller cylinders are usually available. In which he runs his business by filling LPG. This will also impact mobile vendors, who use this cylinder as per their work in colonies and other places.

The change comes against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia involving the US, Israel and Iran, which have led to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global route for crude oil and energy supplies.

On the other hand, the prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) have been kept unchanged for domestic airlines. Oil companies have themselves borne the increase in global fuel prices, so as not to burden airlines and consumers. ATF prices have been increased for international flights.
