New Delhi: The Delhi government has now taken a new step to end the problem of traffic jam that has been going on for decades in Delhi. To solve the problem of severe encroachment on more than 1400 km long roads of the capital, PWD has decided to conduct a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) survey. With the help of this survey, encroachment on the roads will be identified and marked, so that strict action can be taken against illegal encroachments in future.

DGPS survey will ensure accurate monitoring of encroachment

With the help of DGPS survey, real time photographs will be taken from the roads, from which accurate information about the places of encroachment will be obtained. This technology will prove to be very effective in the campaign to identify and remove encroachment. Based on the data received in the survey, PWD will take strict action against illegal encroachments and encroachments. According to a senior PWD officer, the width of roads in Delhi is more than 60 meters, but due to the increasing number of vehicles and encroachments, traffic jams have now become a regular problem. To deal with this problem, the government has decided to remove encroachments, so that the roads can be used more effectively and the problem of traffic jams can be reduced.

Encroachment removal plan and DGPS survey

With traffic pressure increasing in Delhi, it has been decided that only removal of encroachments can improve the traffic situation in the city. Under this scheme, PWD will demarcate the length and width of all the roads. After this, with the help of DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System), encroachment on the roads will be accurately identified. Through this process, accurate data will be collected and based on that, PWD will take action.

Difficult for the government to reduce the number of vehicles

A PWD official said, “The number of vehicles is increasing rapidly in Delhi, but it is not easy for the government to reduce the number of vehicles on these roads. Therefore, we are going to solve this problem by removing encroachments, so that the road can be utilized to the maximum and there is ease in traffic.”

Survey started in North Division

The first phase of the survey will start on 143 km long roads of North Division, in which encroachment marking will be done. A total of Rs 17.34 lakh will be spent on the survey. Based on the data received from this survey, PWD will take action against illegal encroachments, which will remove encroachments from the roads and improve the traffic situation.

Permanent solution to traffic jam

This scheme is a concrete step to overcome the growing traffic problem of the capital. Removing encroachments will free up space on the road and ease the movement of vehicles, which will reduce the problem of traffic jams. Apart from this, safety on the roads will also increase and citizens will get a better traffic experience.

Survey of major areas and roads of North Division

Many important roads and areas have been included in the survey of North Division, including Samaypur Badli Underpass, Azadpur Underpass, Zakhira to Moti Nagar, Zakhira Flyover, Mall Road, GTB Nagar, GT Karnal Road, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar and Shalimar Bagh Assembly Constituency roads will be surveyed. DGPS will be used to get accurate information about the status of encroachment on these roads, which will facilitate action.
