Beyond Paradise star Kris Marshall revealed he has turned down a hit BBC show. The 53-year-old began playing Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman on cosy crime drama Death in Paradise in 2014.
After three years filming on the French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, which doubles up as the fictional Saint Marie, Kris left the show, handing over the lead role to Ardal O'Hanlon. Royle Family star Ralf Little and former EastEnders actor Don Gilet have since led the series. Kris however reprised the role of DI Goodman in 2023 with Beyond Paradise, a spin-off show set much closer to home in Devon and Cornwall.
And while he has starred in and narrated a host of TV shows throughout his career, Kris revealed there is one major show he has turned down. On Virgin Radio, presenter Chris Evans asked if Kris had been asked to appear on The Traitors.
When Kris replied no, the presenter asked if he had been offered any of the major reality programmes. The actor replied: "Strictly, Strictly and Strictly."
Last week reports suggested that the BBC were set to continue auditions this week to find the new Strictly Come Dancing hosts. It came after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman left the show at the end of the last series.
According to WalesOnline, nine famous faces were shortlisted for the coveted role. They are said to have been called to a confidential venue in London for a comprehensive interview.
The audition is said to consist of a full coaching panel and a live band to see how the hosts perform in the spotlight. As well as the auditions, it is believed they will undergo chemistry tests to see how well they work together.
A source revealed: "It's not just about reading autocue. They'll be looking at how people work together and humour is a massive part of it. There's everything to play for."
The auditions prompted Chris to ask whether Kris would consider helping out in the audition process if he were asked. The TV star responded: "Do the dancing? Not interested. I'm actually an alright dancer as well."
Kris, who many will recognise for his role as Nick Harper in the BBC sitcom My Family, has spoken fondly of Beyond Paradise as its fourth series continues. He added: "I'm really happy where I am at the moment. Coz, yeah...coz I love the show, and I love the storylines. And it's quite a mad little show, and I love it."
Chris asked whether they could "stir it up" in series five, and Kris disclosed he and his co-stars are about to begin filming - hinting there'd be "some stuff gonna spice it up", though he couldn't reveal more.
Kris was probed for more information. Initially, he held back but did say: "Well, I mean, how long can a marriage last?", in a possible reference to Humphrey and wife Martha Lloyd's (played by Sally Bretton) nuptials.
People in the studio erupted in celebration at the prospect of drama, but Kris added: "I'm kidding, I'm kidding." Chris joked with the actor that he was "so not kidding", to which the Love Actually star confirmed he wouldn't "give away" spoilers.
Beyond Paradise continues on BBC One at 9pm this evening (May 1)
