A wise woman once said: "Rosé is sunshine in a glass. As such, it may be enjoyed come rain, shine, or any weather." That woman was none other than Dame Joan Collins, who has officially declared rosé season open - just in time for the bank holiday weekend.

In honor of the long weekend that's set to be blessed by sunny weather, the Hollywood icon has been sharing some of her top tips for enjoying a glass of the pink stuff, without paying hefty bar prices. It comes as the 92-year-old has been crowned the latest M&S Food ambassador, with one £16 bottle proving to be a particular hit with the Dynasty actress.

In one of the brand's latest ads, the star can be seen standing beside a larger-than-life tower of her go-to M&S Rosé La Balconne Organic Provence, as she announced it was time to 'begin sipping'.

The La Balconne Organic Provence Rose, comes in at £16 for a 75cl bottle, boasting notes of white peach, strawberry and wild herbs. The 'elegant', organic rosé from the vineyards of Provence, is described as soft yet complex, perfectly as an aperitif, or served with seafood, salads or cheese.

On Ocado, it's been praised by fans who commented: "Beautiful, smooth, not sweet at all, and organic! Adding to my favourites." While another added: "Move over Whispering Angel, my new favourite."

Elsewhere, shoppers can pick up a bottle of Château Miraval Rosé, 75cl, for £17.56, down from £21.95 at Fortnum and Mason. Château Miraval is one of the oldest wine estates in Southern France, dating back to Roman times, making for an interesting conversation point if you want to show off to friends and family.

At Ocado, the affectionately named 'chicken wine', La Vieille Ferme Rose, has been reduced to £7.90 from £8.90. Fresh and fruity, it stars notes of strawberries, peaches and lychees.

Back at M&S, the retailer is marking itsbiggest ever range of rosé, forecasting what they're coining a 'pink Summer', reportedly selling a bottle of rosé every two seconds during peak period. And to make things even sweeter, M&S is offering a 10% saving when customers purchase any four bottles in store.

The best-selling rosé in the M&S Foodhall is the Classics Cotes de Provence Rosé,coming in at a purse-friendly £10. Crisp, delicate and dry, it's bursting with flavours of strawberries and redcurrants, and works well with salmon, seafood, or salad.

One shopper said of the tipple: "Just what you want in summer. Good fruit and light easy going back lights. Lovely."

"Wanted a chilled drink with which to relax on a hot day," said another. "Not too acidic or too sweet, went down very smoothly in the sunshine."

Though one found it was too sweet for them, adding: "Its smooth, gentle and has some subtle flavours but its also very sweet.. if it was crisper and dryer would be awesome but sadly not."

But there are also some new rosés expected to impress shoppers this year, too, like the £8 Lisboa Bonita Rosé - a bright, fruit-forward Portuguese wine with crisp red berry notes and a hint of watermelon.

TheItalian Rosato Pouch is £12 for 1.5L, making it great for easy pouring - ideal when you're entertaining a crowd. This Sicilian rosé is characterised by a fresh, fruity bouquet and a raspberry and cherry aroma.

Once you've picked your bottle and know what to pair it with, Dame Joan has revealed her top tips for enjoying the perfect glass of rose. She said: "Rose always tastes better with a lovely view. Whether it's picturesque surrounding, a sunlit terrace, or simply being with the right company. You don't need a Riviera postcode to drink like the French, just impeccable taste, preferably chilled."
