Ballari: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has intensified its probe into the banner-related clash and firing incident that took place in the city on January 1 during the unveiling of a statue of Maharshi Valmiki.
A CID team led by DySP Anjan Kumar has been camping in the city for the past four days. The officials have questioned several accused persons at a temporary office set up in a guest house.
According to sources, notices were earlier issued asking some accused, said to be linked to supporters of former minister and Gangavathi MLA G Janardhan Reddy, to appear in Bengaluru. Some had attended and recorded their statements.
Those who did not appear earlier were now questioned in Ballari, and their statements were recorded. They were later informed to attend further hearings in court.
In a separate development, more than 20 individuals said to be associated with supporters of city MLA Bharat Reddy were served notices at a residence in MRV Layout. They have been asked to appear in Bengaluru on May 11 to give their statements.
The CID is preparing to file a charge sheet in the case soon.
