A remarkable discovery has emerged from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, where a large and ancient Shivalinga was found during excavation near the renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple. This finding occurred while preparations were underway for the Simhastha Mela scheduled for 2028, as the temple complex is being expanded. The Shivalinga was uncovered around 4 AM on Friday when heavy machinery was leveling the ground.
Devotees Gather in Excitement
As news of the Shivalinga's emergence spread, excitement surged throughout the area. Local priests and residents quickly arrived to perform rituals and worship the newly discovered Shivalinga. Currently, excavation work has been halted, and stringent security measures have been implemented. A large number of devotees are flocking to witness this extraordinary Shivalinga, with many interpreting it as a positive omen from Lord Mahakal.
Potential Historical Significance
According to experts from the archaeology department, initial assessments suggest that this Shivalinga could be around a thousand years old, dating back to the Parmar period (during the reign of King Bhoj). Engineers believe that statues of Nandi and other deities may also be discovered in the vicinity. Previously, in May 2020, similar excavations revealed remnants of ancient temples and sculptures. The archaeology department plans to thoroughly clean and examine the Shivalinga to ascertain its historical significance and exact dating.
