A new thriller series from one of the co-creators of Netflix's hit show Ozark is coming to Paramount+ this month.
M.I.A. is a gripping, edgy new crime drama set in Miama, Florida from Emmy-winning writer Bill Dubuque.
Dubuque is best known for creating the hit streaming series starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney and has also written screenplays for The Accountant films and Netflix's recent thriller hit, His and Hers.
Airing on Peacock in the United States, UK-based viewers are in luck the series will be available exclusively on Paramount+ across the pond.
Let's take a look at everything we know about the series ahead of its highly anticipated premiere in just a few days.
What is M.I.A. about?
M.I.A. is an enthralling, nine-part drama following a young woman living in the Florida Keys, Etta Tiger Jonze (played by Shannon Gisela), who dreams of a better life.
Unfortunately, Etta comes from a family of notorious drug-runners who are tragically and brutally wiped out at the start of the series.
Determined not to fade into obscurity, Etta begins to carve her own path to become the most powerful queenpin in South Florida.
An official synopsis for M.I.A. reads: "The nine-episode series follows a young Etta Tiger Jonze who is restless in the Florida Keys and dreams of a life in Miami's glittering, subtropical kingdom.
"But when her family's drug-running business shatters in tragedy, Etta embarks on a dangerous journey through Miami's neon-lit underbelly that will define who she is and what she's ultimately capable of."
Quality can be assured as joining Dubuque as M.I.A.'s showrunner is Karen Campbell, who has written for hit dramas such as Outlander and Raised By Wolves.
Plus, Alethea Jones is executive producer and will be directing the first two episodes, having also helmed episodes of High Potential and Prime Video's highly-anticipated Spider-Noir.
Who stars in M.I.A.?
Rising star Shannon Gisela is fronting the series as Etta, taking on her first major leading role. Gisela is a South Florida native herself and is known for her voice role in Netflix's animated comedy Strip Law, which stars Severance's Adam Scott.
Gisela will be joined by a stellar supporting cast which includes Cary Elwes (Stranger Things), Danay Garcia (Fear the Walking Dead), Brittany Adebumola (Grand Army), Dylan Jackson (Godfather of Harlem), Alberto Guerra (Griselda), Maurice Compte (Narcos), Gerardo Celasco (The Waterfront), and Marta Milans (White Lines).
