Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were torn apart on new podcast The Royals Uncensored as royal expert Andrew Lownie spoke with hosts Jo Elvin and Katie Nicholl. The royal biographer shared his concerns that Harry and Meghan's "desperation" to upstage the royals after doing a faux royal tour around Australia. It comes after King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to Washington DC to visit US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. There had been speculation that Charles and Harry might reunite during the tour, but with the King and Queen travelling onwards to Bermuda, the meeting didn't happen.
The podcast stars discussed Harry and Charles' fractured relationship, as Lownie called out Harry for trying to "upstage" his own father in a bid to keep attention on himself and Meghan.
Jo Elvin asked: "I'm really confused. It's like we don't want the press intrusion. We don't We want our privacy. We want to live our authentic lives. But the people who had their voices stolen, I've never heard their voices so much. What's your view?"
Lownie replied: "I think this is why everyone is so critical of them this sort of hypocrisy of the way they respond. I mean, they lecture everyone. They lecture everyone else about carbon footprints, and yet they're doing it themselves.
"But they're clearly creating their own faux royal tours, and desperate to upstage the rest of the royal family.
"And I saw this when I did the book on Duke of Windsor. He was doing exactly the same thing. I'm sure there's a playbook there that they can look at."
Elvin replied: "In California, they've made it quite clear in this people article, Katie, that they want to set up basically their own little royal court."
Katie agreed: "That's exactly what they've done. They've got the royal court in Montecito. But I have to tell you,
They may be on the cover of People magazine, but where they weren't was, of course, on this state visit."
