Residents in a block of flats in Plymouth had to be evacuated after a massive fire erupted and ripped through the building. Horror images show flames pouring from the building in North Hill.
The fire started in the early hours of Thursday morning, April 30, on a roof terrace. Six fire engines were sent to the building, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.
Fire crews were dispatched from Totnes, Plympton, Camels Head, Greenbank, Crownhill and Plymstock in a bid to tackle the blaze, PlymouthLive reports.
The roof terrace area was completely destroyed by the blaze, the fire service said. Its cause was deemed accidental.
In a statement, the fire service said: "Three fire engines and an Aerial ladder platform, were all sent to a report of a fire in a block of flats in Plymouth.
"On arrival crews confirmed this was a large fire on a roof terrace and requested further assistance. A further 3 fire engines (6 in total) and a command support unit were sent to assist. Crews extinguished the fire using:
- 4 Breathing apparatus
- 2 Hose reel jets
- 2 Safety jets
- 2 Thermal image cameras
"This fire was believed to have been started on a communal decking area of the roof terrace, which was totally destroyed by the fire. The cause was accidental."
