MUMBAI: The R.A.K. Marg police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against former office bearers of a cooperative housing society in Wadala (West) for the alleged misappropriation of funds worth crores of rupees. The accused include former secretary Nikhil Toprani and former treasurer Vallabh Shah, alongside other associated individuals.

The Allegations: According to a complaint filed by Dr. Bharat Kheraj Shah, a resident of Sunshine Infinity , Wadala the accused allegedly siphoned off society funds collected from members under the guise of corpus and advance maintenance charges. Charges invoked in the FIR include criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and falsification of accounts.

Key Findings from Forensic Audit: Following the election of a new managing committee in September 2024, a forensic audit was ordered, which uncovered significant financial irregularities dating back to 2019. Key findings include:

  • Bogus Invoices & Vendors: Payments were made using fabricated invoices from entities such as “Rajendra Enterprise,” whose proprietor has denied any business dealings with the society.

  • Unauthorized Fund Diversion: In March 2022, approximately ₹17.27 lakh was transferred to Sumandeep University in Vadodara without approval from the general body.

  • Financial Manipulation: Investigators discovered the use of fake bank accounts, forged supplier records, and invoices worth nearly ₹2 crore generated without proper documentation (GST/PAN).

  • Procedural Violations: The audit also highlighted unauthorized adjustments in maintenance funds and the concealment of income in tax filings.

The audit report, submitted by the appointed authorities in June 2025, confirmed serious financial misconduct. While the police investigation is underway reports indicate that the accused approached the Cooperative Court in October 2025 to challenge the continuation of forensic audits. Authorities suspect that further evidence of fraud may emerge as the investigation progresses.

Based on these allegations, the police have registered the FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The case involves financial and property-related disputes, and authorities are currently investigating the role of the accused individuals and other involved ,” Said Ragasudha R Deputy commissioner of police Zone 4 ,In an Exclusive Conversation with Hello Mumbai News.
