In Uttar Pradesh, the Women’s Commission has issued 9 new directives with the safety of women in mind. Now, the presence of female staff and strict security protocols will be mandatory in dance classes, gyms, yoga centers, and boutiques.
A significant shift has been observed in Uttar Pradesh regarding the safety and dignity of women. New regulations are now being implemented across dance classes, gyms, yoga centers, boutiques, and various other establishments. Acting on a petition filed by a lawyer, the Women’s Commission has issued a total of 9 key directives aimed at creating a safer and more trustworthy environment for women.
According to the new directives, it will now be mandatory to employ female instructors to teach dance to girls. The Women’s Commission believes that this will provide students with a safer and more comfortable environment.
Female Staff Mandatory in Gyms, Yoga Centers, and Boutiques
Under the new rules, the presence of female trainers and instructors will now be mandatory in gyms, yoga centers, and performing arts centers. Additionally, a thorough background verification of all trainers will be conducted to prevent any potential irregularities. Furthermore, it has been made mandatory to employ female staff in boutiques and clothing stores where women’s garments are tailored or where measurements are taken.
Female Staff Mandatory on School Buses
The new orders also introduce a major change for schools. It is now mandatory to have a female security guard or a female teacher present on school buses. The objective is to further strengthen the safety of children, particularly girls.
ID Proof Mandatory for Entry
It will now be mandatory for every individual entering a gym or yoga center to submit a copy of their Aadhaar card or other valid identity proof. This will ensure that a secure record of all visitors is maintained, thereby helping to curb any suspicious activities.
Emphasis on CCTV Surveillance and Security Arrangements
The Women’s Commission has explicitly stated that the installation of CCTV cameras and DVR systems will be mandatory in all coaching centers, gyms, yoga classes, and boutiques. This will facilitate the monitoring of any incidents that may occur and serve to bolster overall security.
What Does the Women’s Commission Say?
The Women’s Commission has forwarded these nine-point directives to the Chief Secretary for implementation. The Commission asserts that these measures are essential for enhancing the safety, dignity, and self-confidence of women, particularly in settings where they go for training or work.
Decision Follows a Petition
This entire matter came to light following a petition filed by Advocate Praveen Fighter. During the hearings, the Women’s Commission deliberated upon all relevant aspects before issuing these directives. The Commission maintains that there must be clear-cut regulations regarding safety within both public and private training institutions.
