PNG Scam Alert: As digital amenities expand rapidly these days, instances of cyber fraud are emerging with equal speed. Scammers have now turned PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections into a new weapon. It is noteworthy that, following new government regulations, people are rapidly opting for PNG connections; capitalizing on this situation, scammers are targeting individuals. According to government directives, residents in areas where PNG facilities are available are required to obtain a connection within a stipulated timeframe. Exploiting this requirement, fraudsters are extorting money from people by instilling fear in them. Consequently, exercising extreme caution is essential.

What is the PNG Gas Scam?
Fraudsters are now sending fake calls or messages to the general public, posing as representatives of gas companies. They call claiming to be gas company officials and threaten people with the disconnection of their gas supply, or they send fraudulent messages. These messages typically state: "Your gas connection is being terminated; make an immediate payment." To facilitate this, they send fake links, QR codes, or payment requests. Acting out of fear and haste, people often transfer money without verifying the details, thereby falling victim to fraud.

Who is Being Targeted?
This scam is spreading rapidly in areas with a high density of PNG connections. Numerous cases have been reported in cities such as Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad. Upon reading messages like "Pay immediately, or your connection will be cut off," people often panic; driven by fear, they place their trust in unknown numbers or click on links without thinking twice. Some individuals even share their OTPs or download fraudulent applications, thereby granting scammers access to their bank accounts.

How to Identify a Fake Message?
First and foremost, verify the identity of the number from which you received the message. Additionally, keep in mind that fraudulent messages often employ intimidating language and exert pressure for immediate action. If you are urged to act in haste, become alert immediately. Legitimate companies always convey information using standard, professional language; they never exert undue pressure, nor do they send suspicious links or QR codes.

**Keep These Points in Mind When Making Payments**
If you receive any message or call related to your PNG connection, do not panic. Do not trust any unfamiliar links, calls, or messages. To make a payment, always visit the gas company's official website or app and complete the transaction exclusively through these channels. Do not share your OTP, PIN, or bank details with anyone; furthermore, thoroughly verify all details before making a payment.

**What to Do If You Fall Victim to Fraud?**
If you inadvertently fall victim to fraud, immediately notify your bank and request that the transaction be blocked. Additionally, call the helpline number 1930 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. The sooner you take action, the higher the likelihood of recovering your money.

Please note that scams related to PNG connections are on the rise; however, with a little caution, they can be avoided. In this context, staying vigilant remains your greatest defense.
