Bhagwant Mann to meet President on AAP MPs joining BJP, 7 MPs had left AAP

President will meet Draupadi Murmu on May 5

Chandigarh. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said he will meet President Draupadi Murmu on May 5 on the issue of seven Rajya Sabha members of the Aam Aadmi Party joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mann had earlier requested the President to give him an appointment with the party MLAs to demand the recall of AAP Rajya Sabha members who had joined the BJP.

The Chief Minister said, the President has given time for a meeting on May 5 at 12 noon and I will definitely meet him. When Mann was asked whether there was any provision in the law to recall an MP, he said he would talk to the President about it.

The Aam Aadmi Party suffered a major blow on April 24 when seven of its 10 Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh, Rajendra Gupta, Vikramjit Sahni and Swati Maliwal left AAP and joined the BJP, accusing the party of deviating from its principles, values and core moral values. Of the seven Rajya Sabha members who left AAP, six were elected from Punjab.

Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan on Monday officially accepted the MPs’ joining the BJP, reducing the number of members of Arvind Kejriwal’s party in the Upper House to three.

On the question of Punjab government bringing a trust motion during the special session of the state assembly on May 1, Chief Minister Mann said, the party already has 94 MLAs. What could be greater than this the faith of the people of Punjab? Passing the budget also shows confidence. The government may fall if the budget fails. All our bills were passed almost unanimously in the House.

“If anyone claims that so many (MLAs) are in touch (with other parties) and their government will fall, we will bring a trust motion,” he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab unit president Sunil Jakhar has demanded the AAP government to pay the dues of state employees. In response to a question asked in this regard, Mann retorted and said that BJP leaders should fulfill the ‘promises’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which it has been said to deposit Rs 15 lakh in everyone’s bank account and to provide two crore jobs. Referring to seven AAP MPs joining the BJP, the Chief Minister said those who break trust are called ‘traitors’.
