Ext polls from five states have started arriving. In Bengal, a close contest is seen between TMC and BJP, while in Assam, BJP government is once again being formed. NDA government seems to be formed again in Puducherry also. After 10 years, Congress is once again visible in Kerala. Talking about Tamil Nadu, Stalin government seems to be formed once again. Meanwhile, a major change was seen in the politics of Delhi Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, when Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Pravesh Wahi was elected the new Mayor. Presiding Officer Raja Iqbal Singh made the official announcement of Pravesh Wahi being elected Mayor. Rohini East councilor Pravesh Wahi secured a total of 156 votes, which also included the support of 14 councilors of Indraprastha Vikas Party. Whereas Congress candidate Haji Zaraf got only 9 votes.

BJP councilor from Anand Vihar Monica Pant was elected Deputy Mayor with 156 votes. Councilor Jai Bhagwan Yadav from Begumpur and Councilor Manish Chadha from Paharganj were elected to the Standing Committee, while Councilor Jalaj Chaudhary from Shalimar Bagh was also elected in this panel. After being elected Mayor, Pravesh Wahi thanked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the party leadership and said that in the coming months, emphasis will be laid on making Delhi clean and speeding up development works.

He said, ‘We will make Delhi clean and will work continuously for development.’ This time there was a total electoral college of 273 votes for the mayor election, which included 249 councilors, 14 MLAs nominated by the Delhi Assembly, 7 Lok Sabha MPs and 3 Rajya Sabha members. 137 votes were required for victory, which the BJP candidate easily crossed. The interesting thing is that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) kept distance from this election and did not participate in the voting.

Aam Aadmi Party Delhi President Saurabh Bhardwaj said that this decision has been taken to allow BJP to take over the responsibility of MCD and to expose its functioning to the public. He alleged that despite being in power at all levels, BJP has not been able to bring any major change in Delhi. Earlier in November 2024, Mahesh Kumar of Aam Aadmi Party was elected mayor by three votes in a very close contest. Let us tell you that on May 22, 2022, East Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation were integrated into a single institution – Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
