King Charles just proved what we all know - and Harry will feel the chill

Prince Harry has not seen his father since September, and this week is likely to hit him hard. Ever since he quit royal life six years ago, the Duke of Sussex has called Montecito in California home.

While Harry has frequently flown back to the UK for various occasions, including to see his father, King Charles, it is true that his father has never flown to America to see him. This is likely due to the sheer amount of security planning this would require, but nevertheless, it probably feels rubbish for Harry.

And this week, Harry will be sitting in his Californian home knowing that his father is finally in the same country as him... but not for him.

No, the King has not flown to the US to see Harry or his grandchildren, but instead he has made the trip across the pond as part of a state visit after being invited by US President Donald Trump - a political figure Harry is not exactly keen on.

For Harry, news of his father being in the same country may well be painful, especially knowing the King has flown over to see Trump rather than him.

While Harry will no doubt be happy that his father is doing his job, and doing it well, his father being so close - yet so far as he visits Washington DC, New York and Virginia - will probably bring some sorrow.

Why? Well, the King won't be stopping off during his American trip in Montecito to see Harry and his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet, who he has only met on very few occasions.

The reason for this is not clear. But all you have to do is look at a map to see that California is in a completely different part of America from where the King is visiting, which is likely to be a strong reason for the lack of visits.

And with the King flying from the US to Bermuda in a few days, a quick stop-off at Harry and Meghan's Montecito pad is simply not in the diary.

This all makes sense on paper, but I can see why Harry might feel hurt. He and his father are closer in distance than they have been for some time, yet still, a meeting is not on the agenda. If anything, they are further apart than ever.

If the King could, I'm sure he would spare some time to fly to California to see his son and his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. But life as a busy monarch means that time for personal trips cannot always fit into the diary.

Maybe next time, Harry...
