Video footage captured the moment police shouted "drop the f***ing knife" as they confronted a suspect moments before tasering and arresting him following a suspected terror stabbing in north London. The incident unfolded in Golders Green shortly after 11am on Wednesday, when two Jewish men, aged in their 30s and 70s, were stabbed in Highfield Avenue. Both victims were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition.
Police say the 45-year-old suspect was still armed when officers arrived. Footage shows armed officers moving in quickly, issuing repeated commands for him to drop the weapon before deploying a Taser and using force to bring him under control. The Met Police said the suspect also attempted to stab officers during the arrest. No officers were injured.
The man was detained on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody. Counter Terrorism Policing is leading the investigation while officers work to establish his background and any possible motive, including whether the attack is linked to recent incidents targeting Jewish sites in London.
Witness footage circulating online shows officers surrounding the suspect as he refuses to comply with commands. After the Taser is deployed, several officers move in to restrain him on the ground and secure the knife.
Members of the public intervened before police arrived, with reports that the suspect was contained using a vehicle to limit his movement. A volunteer from the Shomrim community security group was among those who helped restrain him until officers arrived.
Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service, attended the scene. The suspect was also taken to hospital following his arrest.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams said officers responded swiftly to a "horrific attack" and praised those who helped prevent further harm.
He said: "We are grateful to officers who quickly Tasered and arrested the suspect before he could cause further injury. Investigators are considering all possible motives."
The incident has caused alarm in the local community, with Golders Green home to one of the UK's largest Jewish populations. The area has seen heightened security concerns in recent weeks amid a rise in antisemitic incidents across London.
The Prime Minister described the stabbings as "deeply concerning" and said the government was committed to dealing with such offences.
Counter-terrorism officers are continuing enquiries, including examining whether the attack is linked to a series of recent arson incidents targeting Jewish sites in the capital. Police have urged anyone with information or footage to come forward as the investigation continues.
