One name that has been in the limelight for IPL 2026 so far, is the young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and he's lived up to all the hype. At such a young age, he's playing with a maturity and confidence that is not often found in a top-level Indian cricket team.
Despite a rare outing of 'duck' for him against Lucknow Super Giants, the young batter has kept the run charts occupied throughout IPL 2026. His scores read, 52, 31, 39, 78, 46, 103, 43, and with these consistent scores he's managed to cross 400 runs, becoming the first batsman to do so this season.
He has also gone past players like KL Rahul, Abhishek Sharma, and Virat Kohli in this process. If the youngster keeps up the momentum then, there is a high probability of him being the youngest player to win an IPL Orange cap.
Power Hitting Gives him Edge
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also been compared with the legendary batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh. These comparisons are, however, very early. Though Murali Kartik the former Indian spinner feel that there is something different about the youngster's power hitting.
On the Cricbuzz post-match show, Kartik said:
“Brian Lara would have been pleased had he had Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s power-hitting. He was a genius, but his backlift was slightly different. His was high as well, but when Sooryavanshi brings the bat down, he generates a lot of power. His head is also so still. Most of his shots are not free-flowing or flourishing. He just packs a punch."
Sooryavanshi's strength lies in his ability to hit the ball hard without compromising on balance. While others may resort to extravagant swings, his still head and simple shot selection give him an edge.

Fearless Approach Like Sehwag
Besides strength, Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach has been talk of town. Kartik compare Sooryavanshi with Virender Sehwag, who was famous of smashing all best bowlers of world.
He said:
“The most important thing is that he’s young. Hand-eye coordination is amazing. In terms of fearlessness, he is a lot like Viru [Sehwag]. He was the same. The bigger the bowler, the more Sehwag wanted to hit him into space. This kid is not telling us, but from inside he must go like Hazlewood, Bumrah, Sunil Narine, I will smash them all."
This is attitude of Sooryavanshi in playing well against the elite bowlers of the world. His fearlessness at young age is remarkable trait of him.
With eye-catching performances and praise coming, Sooryavanshi is sure to become one of the must watch player of IPL 2026.
