The UK is set to bask in temperatures as high as 25C in the coming days. The latest weather maps from WX Charts, which uses data from MetDesk, show the mercury surging across the nation on Friday (May 1).

According to the weather maps, eight cities in the UK will see temperatures of 23C or higher, with London forecast conditions of 25C at 6pm. The majority of the remainder of the country will see the mercury in the low 20s, while the South West is expected to be the coolest region with temperatures in the late teens. Meanwhile, in its five-day forecast, the Met Office is expecting "warm and humid" conditions on Friday as well as the possibility of "heavy showers or thunderstorms".

The warm weather will arrive in the afternoon on Friday, with temperatures hovering around 20C for most parts by midday. London can expect the mercury to be around 21C at 12pm, while the Midlands will see conditions of 20C.

It will also be warm in the North of England, with Manchester forecast temperatures of 20C and cities in Yorkshire, including Leeds and Sheffield, set to see the mercury in the early 20s at this time. Meanwhile, conditions will be cooler in Scotland with temperatures ranging from 12C to 18C.

The heat will ramp up through the afternoon, eventually hitting 25C in London by 6pm. Seven other cities across the UK are forecast for temperatures of 23C or higher at this time.

Elsewhere, the Midlands will see average temperatures around 22C, while the south coast can expect conditions of around 20C. In the East of England, temperatures will hover between 18C and 19C at 6pm.

The South West can expect cooler temperatures as well, with 19C forecast in Exeter and 15C forecast in Plymouth at this time. Meanwhile, it is set to be 17C in Bristol and Cardiff.

In its outlook for the weekend, the Met Office said: "Warm and humid on Friday, with sunny spells and a few heavy showers or thunderstorms. Sunny spells and showers Saturday and Sunday, some heavy and thundery. Turning a little cooler."

Looking further ahead, the forecaster said in its long-range forecast, which runs from Sunday, May 3, until Tuesday, May 12, that "conditions will probably be fairly changeable" due to "low pressure systems in the vicinity of the UK".

The Met Office explained: "This means an increasing chance of showers or longer spells of rain, along with some strong winds at times. However, dry interludes with spells of warm sunshine are still likely, with a risk of a few short-lived early morning fog patches, especially around coasts. Temperatures are likely to be close to normal overall."

According to WX Charts, the following eight cities will see temperatures of 23C or higher on Friday:

  • London
  • Oxford
  • Cambridge
  • Peterborough
  • Nottingham
  • Doncaster
  • Derby
  • Sheffield
