Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday announced a set of initiatives centered on the legacy of Raja Hirdeshah Lodhi, including his inclusion in academic curricula and the construction of a memorial pilgrimage site.
The announcements were made during an event held at Jamboree Ground in Bhopal to mark the 168th death anniversary of the regional historical figure, observed as "Shaurya Diwas." According to officials present at the event, the state government plans to introduce documented aspects of Hirdeshah Lodhi's life and contributions into the education system. The initiative is expected to involve research efforts aimed at compiling historical records, which would then be integrated into school syllabi. The Chief Minister also outlined a proposal to develop a site along the Narmada River in Hirdapur dedicated to Hirdeshah Lodhi. The site is intended to function as a place of historical and cultural significance, where visitors can learn about his life and role in resistance movements during the 19th century. During the address, references were made to Hirdeshah Lodhi's involvement in early resistance against British rule, particularly between 1842 and 1858. Historical accounts presented at the event highlighted his efforts to mobilize communities, including Bundela groups and tribal populations, in opposition to colonial authority. The programme also included remarks from state ministers and community representatives, who emphasized the importance of documenting regional contributions to India's freedom struggle. Officials stated that the government has previously taken similar steps, including the establishment of a university in Sagar named after Rani Avanti Bai. In addition to historical initiatives, the Chief Minister mentioned broader cultural efforts underway in the state, such as the construction of community infrastructure and promotion of traditional observances. The announcements form part of ongoing efforts by the state administration to highlight regional figures and integrate their contributions into public awareness through education and infrastructure projects.
