The People’s Committees of multiple wards in Hanoi have publicly released lists of establishments found violating food safety regulations during inspections in March and April, with many popular brands and beverage chains named.

In Kim Lien Ward, a branch of Dookki, an all-you-can-eat restaurant chain serving Korean food, at Vincom Pham Ngoc Thach was fined VND8 million ($303) for stagnant and uncovered wastewater systems.

Korean restaurant Han Kim Chi was fined VND4 million for using substandard food containers.

A Laboong milk tea outlet in the Nam Thanh Cong area was fined VND4 million for failing to provide hygienic waste containers.

The Vuon Bia eatery on Hoang Ngoc Phach Street received the highest fine of VND12 million for multiple violations, including the presence of insects in the food preparation area and clogged, uncovered drainage systems.

Another cooked food establishment was also fined VND1.5 million because its employees handled food with bare hands.

Authorities said common violations include dilapidated sanitary infrastructure, such as clogged and uncovered drainage systems in food preparation areas, which allow harmful insects to enter cooking spaces and directly threaten food quality.

Many establishments were also found using improper waste containers and unsafe food storage practices, while kitchen staff frequently failed to wear gloves when handling ready-to-eat food.

Food hygiene concerns in Hanoi previously drew widespread attention after a bun rieu (rice noodle soup) restaurant on Hang Luoc Street was suspended in early March following complaints from a Chinese tourist.

Officials said recent inspections found widespread breaches, prompting them to impose fines ranging from VND1.5 million to VND12 million (($57-455) depending on the severity.
