Hyderabad: The state government issued orders appointing C.V. Anand as the new Director General of Police (DGP) for Telangana.
Incumbent DGP Shivadhar Reddy retires on Thursday, with Anand scheduled to take charge on May 1. Currently serving as the Special Chief Secretary to the State Home Department, Anand will hold the post of DGP for a tenure of two years.
Since the formation of Telangana state, only Anurag Sharma and Mahender Reddy have served as full-time DGPs appointed through the UPSC process.
IPS officer at the age of 22:
C.V. Anand, a senior IPS officer belonging to the 1991 batch, joined the service at the age of 22. He has rendered distinguished service spanning 34 years across various departments in an undivided Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Additionally, he served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) for the districts of Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Warangal and later, as the Police Commissioner for both Hyderabad and Cyberabad. In the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh, Anand served as the Police Commissioner of Vijayawada.
Along with Anand, the government also considered the names of Vinayak Prabhakar Apte and Soumya Mishra, both belonging to the 1994 batch. As C.V. Anand was the senior-most officer among these three, orders were issued appointing him as the DGP.
