Nainital: A shocking incident in the Bhimtal area of Uttarakhand late Tuesday night left residents terrified. A leopard collided with a speeding motorcycle, causing panic and chaos at the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, a biker was returning home from a temple with his wife when the leopard suddenly crossed the road in the Khutani area of Bhimtal. The animal collided with the motorcycle, throwing the rider off balance. The impact was so severe that the leopard became entangled in the bike and struggled in a wounded state.

The couple quickly took shelter in a nearby shop, narrowly escaping serious injury. Locals gathered at the scene, some filming the incident on their mobile phones, while others tried to keep a safe distance.

Forest Department action

The incident was immediately reported to the Forest Department. Forest Range Officer Vijay Melkani confirmed that a rescue team was dispatched without delay. A special team from Ranibagh also joined the operation.

The leopard was carefully freed from the motorcycle and taken to the rescue center in Ranibagh for medical treatment. Officials said the animal had sustained injuries but was stable after receiving first aid.

Residents advised to remain alert

The Forest Department has urged residents of Bhimtal and nearby areas to remain vigilant. Surveillance has been increased to monitor leopard movement, as human-wildlife encounters have become more frequent in Uttarakhand’s hill districts.

Previous incidents

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Nainital. In recent years, leopards have been spotted near residential areas, often in search of food. Several cases of leopards attacking livestock and straying into villages have been reported, highlighting the growing challenge of human-wildlife conflict in the region.

While the couple escaped unharmed, the incident underscores the need for caution on forested roads, especially at night. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, ensuring both public safety and animal welfare.
