Diego Pavia Signs with Baltimore Ravens as Undrafted Free Agent

Diego Pavia, the Heisman Trophy runner-up from Vanderbilt, has signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The announcement came on Tuesday, although the team has not officially confirmed the deal.
Pavia's signing occurs just before the Ravens' rookie camp later this week. Last season, he finished second in the Heisman voting, behind fellow quarterback Fernando Mendoza, but was not selected during the NFL Draft.
Pavia's College Career
At 5-foot-10, Pavia's height may have influenced his draft status, despite a noteworthy college career. He began his journey in junior college football at the New Mexico Military Institute before transferring to New Mexico State, and later to Vanderbilt, where he nearly led the team to the College Football Playoff.
Legal Challenges and Advocacy
Pavia is also the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against an NCAA rule that counts junior college seasons against a player's Division I eligibility. This case is set for trial in February, and Pavia successfully obtained a preliminary injunction that allowed him to compete last season. He pursued this lawsuit to advocate for other junior college athletes.
Controversial Heisman Ceremony Reaction
After the Heisman ceremony, Pavia shared an Instagram story expressing his frustration towards the voting process, stating, "F-ALL THE VOTERS, BUT.....FAMILY FOR LIFE." He later issued an apology for his comments.
Joining the Ravens
Pavia will join a Ravens team that features two-time MVP Lamar Jackson as the starting quarterback, along with backup Tyler Huntley, who had a successful season last year. His addition adds depth to the Ravens' quarterback roster.
