Washington: US President Donald Trump has made a big claim saying that Iran is currently in a state of ‘serious crisis’ and he wants America to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible. Trump said this in his social media post, although it is not clear how Iran conveyed this message to America. At the same time, there has been no official response from Iran on this claim. Trump said on social media that Iran wants America to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, so that it can solve the problems to its leadership.
Questions are being raised on Trump’s claim
Trump also said he was confident that Iran would be able to resolve its internal differences. However, many questions are being raised regarding this claim, because the White House has not yet clarified who gave this message on behalf of Iran, who received it in America and whether this conversation took place directly or through an intermediary. Trump wrote in his post, ‘Iran has told us that it is in ‘serious crisis’ and wants us to open the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.’ This statement of Trump has come at a time when global energy supply has been badly affected due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
Why is the Strait of Hormuz important?
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important sea routes, through which approximately one-fifth of the global oil supply passes. In such a situation, closure or obstruction of this waterway has a direct impact on the energy supply and oil prices of the entire world. Earlier on Monday, Trump had a meeting with his national security team, in which Iran’s latest proposal was discussed. This proposal is said to be to opening the Strait of Hormuz. White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said in the press conference that the issue was discussed, but she wanted to avoid commenting on the outcome of the meeting.
Are there mutual differences in Iran’s leadership?
At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Iran is ‘serious’ about making an agreement with America, but he also wants to take time. He said, ‘Iran wants to get out of its current situation, but due to differences between different factions there, talks are being limited.’ Rubio also indicated that infighting over Iran’s leadership was hampering peace talks. At the same time, the American administration also feels that the ongoing naval pressure i.e. siege on Iran’s ports is having an impact.
