New Delhi. BJP has won all 15 municipal corporations in the local body elections in Gujarat. According to the latest data from the State Election Commission, the ruling party BJP has won more than half of the total seats in municipal corporations. BJP has captured all 52 seats in Morbi Municipal Corporation. On Sunday, April 26, voting was held for 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayats. These elections were considered one of the biggest electoral exercises in the state ahead of the assembly elections next year. This included more than 4.18 crore eligible voters on about 9,200 seats.

BJP took lead in district and taluka panchayats
The BJP has also emerged as a major force in rural local bodies. In the 34 district panchayats comprising 1,090 seats, the party won 568 seats, while the Congress got 77 and others 30. Of the 260 taluka panchayats comprising 5,234 seats, BJP won 2,397 seats, Congress won 591 seats, while others won 329 seats. Out of 120 seats in Surat Municipal Corporation, BJP has won 115 seats. At the same time, AAP is limited to four seats. AAP had won 27 seats in 2021. Congress has lost one seat.
Voting percentage in local body elections
According to State Election Commission data, voting was 55.1 per cent for municipal corporations, 65.53 per cent for municipalities, 66.64 per cent for district panchayats and 67.26 per cent for taluka panchayats. Among municipal corporations, newly formed Gandhidham in Kutch district recorded the lowest turnout of 46.03 per cent. At the same time, the highest turnout was 72.29 percent in Vapi of Valsad district. 51.81 percent voting was recorded in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
