Maintaining its momentum of electoral clean sweeps in Gujarat, the ruling BJP won all 15 municipal corporations in the state.
While Congress managed to reopen its account in Surat by winning just one seat, AAP, which had secured 27 seats in the previous election, was reduced to just four seats, with BJP bagging the remaining 115. In Ahmedabad, BJP won 158 of the 192 seats, while in Rajkot it secured 65 out of 72 seats. In Vadodara, BJP's tally stood at 69 out of 76 seats.
Overall, BJP won 856 seats out of the 1,044 seats spread across the 15 municipal corporations, leaving 77 seats for Congress and 12 for others. In municipalities, BJP won 1,791 seats out of 2,030 seats across 84 municipalities. Congress managed to secure 414 seats while others won 144. BJP also won control of 78 municipalities, with Congress winning around six.
Out of the 34 district panchayats, BJP won 33, while AAP won one. Across 260 taluka panchayats, BJP bagged 253 seats, leaving just seven for others.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the victory in Gujarat. "The bond between Gujarat and BJP gets even stronger! Gratitude to the people of Gujarat for a sweeping mandate in the Mahanagarpalika, Nagarpalika, Taluka Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat elections held across the state. People have voted for the politics of good governance...," Modi posted on X.
