Dubai: On Tuesday, the United Arab Emirates declared its intention to exit the oil-producing group OPEC, effective from May 1.
This announcement was made through the UAE's state-operated WAM news agency.
According to the UAE, "This decision aligns with our long-term strategic and economic goals, reflecting an evolving energy landscape that prioritizes domestic energy investments. It underscores our commitment to a responsible and forward-thinking role in the global energy sector."
The decision also highlights growing tensions between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, particularly regarding economic matters and the ongoing conflict in Yemen involving the Iran-supported Houthi rebels.
