8th Pay Commission: With the website currently down, Central Government employees and pensioners are facing difficulties in accessing information regarding the salary revision process.

8th Pay Commission: A meeting between the 8th Pay Commission and employee organizations is scheduled to commence today, April 28, in Delhi. Meanwhile, the official website of the 8th Pay Commission (8cpc.gov.in) has gone offline due to a technical glitch.

Rising Anxiety Among Millions of Employees

The server crashed at a critical juncture, just when millions of Central Government employees and pensioners were relying on the portal for the latest updates regarding their salary hikes. With the website down, Central Government employees and pensioners have been left without a primary channel to access information during this crucial phase of the salary revision process.

It is worth noting that a series of meetings with various employee unions and staff associations are scheduled to take place in the national capital from April 28 to April 30. Several employee organizations have submitted new demands to the panel, which will serve as the basis for determining changes to salaries and allowances. Amidst these three-day meetings, users have been experiencing difficulties accessing the website since early this morning.

What is the Cause?

There has been no official statement released yet explaining why the website is down or why users are facing access issues. However, it is widely believed that the server outage is likely due to heavy web traffic or ongoing technical maintenance.

This is not an isolated incident; employee organizations such as the NC-JCM and BPS have previously written to the Commission to complain about technical glitches encountered while attempting to upload memorandums or representations to the portal.

The Objective of the Delhi Meeting

The primary objective of the meeting being held in Delhi is to hear the demands of the employee unions regarding key issues—such as minimum basic pay, the fitment factor, various allowances, and the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS)—and to reach decisions following thorough deliberation on these matters. The National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) has demanded a minimum basic salary of ₹69,000—with a fitment factor of 3.83—and an annual increment of 6% from the Commission. It is noteworthy that some employee unions are also demanding a minimum salary of ₹72,000, a fitment factor of 4.0, and the reinstatement of the Old Pension Scheme.
