Sir Keir Starmer is facing a nightmare day amid the Lord Mandelson scandal. The Prime Minister's former chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, will give evidence to MPs on the Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday about the peer's appointment as US ambassador despite failing security checks.
And in the afternoon, MPs will vote in the Commons over whether there should be a parliamentary sleaze probe into claims Sir Keir lied to MPs. The Prime Minister has been accused of misleading the Commons by saying that "full due process" was followed in handing Lord Mandelson the plum Washington role. But Downing Street has accused the Tories of a "desperate political stunt" over their demand for a vote on the issue ahead of next week's local elections.
