According to a report by Bloomberg tech analyst Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to introduce its high-end MacBook Pro models with a stunning new design in the near future. Rumors suggest that the company may christen this device the 'MacBook Ultra.' This new laptop is expected to occupy a segment positioned even higher than the current MacBook Pro lineup, making it—quite evidently—a premium device. Apple last revamped the MacBook Pro's design in 2021, coinciding with the launch of the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. Consequently, customers are eagerly awaiting this major design overhaul, which comes five years later. Regarding the launch timeline, a global shortage of memory chips (RAM) makes it likely that the device will launch in early 2027, rather than by the end of 2026. Let's explore the six key features that are set to make this 'MacBook Ultra' truly exceptional:

1. Stunning OLED Display
Current MacBook Pro models feature LCD screens with Mini-LED backlighting. However, the MacBook Ultra could mark Apple's first laptop to utilize an OLED display. This would deliver superior picture quality, vibrant colors, and exceptional contrast, including true "inky blacks."

2. Touchscreen Support
This could perhaps be the most surprising change of all. Until now, MacBooks have lacked touchscreen capabilities; however, reports suggest that the MacBook Ultra's display may feature touch functionality. This implies that, in addition to using the keyboard and trackpad, you will be able to control the screen directly using your fingers.

3. The iPhone's Dynamic Island
The MacBook Ultra may replace the traditional notch located at the top of the screen with a hole-punch camera cutout, thereby paving the way for the Dynamic Island feature. Much like on the iPhone, the upper section of the MacBook's screen will now intelligently display notifications—such as low battery alerts and AirPods connectivity status—dynamically and intuitively. This design shift is also expected to result in even thinner bezels around the laptop's display.

4. Powerful M6 Pro and M6 Max Chips
To take the MacBook Ultra's performance to the next level, it will utilize Apple's upcoming M6 Pro and M6 Max processors. These chips will be built on TSMC's highly advanced 2nm technology, promising significant improvements in both speed and battery life compared to the previous generation. It is worth noting that the current M5 chips are based on 3nm technology.

5. Thinner Than Ever
Thanks to the use of an OLED screen and other design modifications, the MacBook Ultra's profile is expected to be significantly slimmer than that of the current MacBook Pro. However, it remains unclear whether the company will sacrifice essential ports—such as HDMI, MagSafe, or the SD card slot—in its quest to achieve this thinner form factor.

6. Built-in Internet Connectivity
Currently, MacBook users must rely on Wi-Fi networks or a smartphone hotspot to access the internet. However, according to various reports, Apple is considering integrating built-in cellular (5G/LTE) connectivity into future MacBook models. To achieve this, the company may utilize its own internally developed C1X or C2 modems.
Note: Users awaiting the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro (featuring the M6 chip) should be aware that many of the premium features mentioned above may not be available on that base model.
