‘Your wife is also in politics, ask her’ Anant Singh said on Pappu Yadav’s shameful statement

Patna: Independent MP from Purnia, Bihar, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav is embroiled in controversy due to his statement regarding women during the discussion on the Women’s Reservation Bill. In a video viral on social media, she claimed that 90 percent of women in politics cannot move forward without a leader going into the room.

He called it a common culture and accused politicians, officials and capitalists of exploiting women. There have been sharp reactions in political circles regarding this statement. Many leaders have called it an insult to women.

Anant Singh’s sharp attack

Janata Dal United’s strong MLA Anant Singh fiercely targeted Pappu Yadav. He said, “Pappu Yadav has gone mad. Where is his own wife? His wife is also a leader. Before speaking about anyone else, he should ask his wife.” Anant Singh called the statement shameful and said that such things reduce the respect of women.

Women Commission’s strict stance

Bihar State Women Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of this matter. Commission Chairperson Apsara has issued a notice to Pappu Yadav and sought his reply within three days. It has been asked in the notice why the recommendation for termination of his Lok Sabha membership should not be made to the Lok Sabha Speaker. The Commission described the statement as against the dignity of women.

National Commission for Women chief Vijaya Rahatkar also strongly condemned the statement. He termed it insensitive and against the spirit of the Constitution. Rahatkar appealed to Pappu Yadav to apologize unconditionally.

BJP attacked

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders also criticized Pappu Yadav’s statement. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala called it shocking. He said that when the country is trying to advance women, it is wrong to make such statements. BJP leader Tuhin Sinha termed the statement as disgusting and shameful.

Pappu Yadav’s defense

Pappu Yadav expressed displeasure on receiving the notice. He said that he had talked about exploitation of women and not any indecent comment. Yadav claimed that many women are victims of exploitation by gurus and leaders. He also raised questions on the Women’s Commission and said that the Commission should take action on other matters first.
