What was the condition of the match?
Batting first, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 155 runs losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Rinku Singh played the most brilliant innings for the team and scored unbeaten 83 runs on 51 balls. His innings included 7 fours and 5 sixes. In the last over, he changed the course of the match by hitting four consecutive sixes against Digvesh Rathi. Mohsin Khan bowled brilliantly for LSG and took 5 wickets. While chasing the target of 156 runs, Lucknow’s batting again faltered. There was a change in the team’s opening pair, where Aiden Markram was sent in with Mitchell Marsh, while Ayush Badoni was dropped at number 5. Despite this the batting unit could not run together. Mohammed Shami hit a six on the last ball, taking the score to 155 and taking the match into the super over.
Captain Rishabh Pant expressed confidence in Nicholas Pooran in the Super Over, but this decision proved costly. Sunil Narine dismissed both Pooran and Aiden Markram and gave just 1 run, which was one of the lowest Super Over scores in IPL history. After this, KKR easily achieved the target and registered victory.

After the match, Rishabh Pant spoke openly about his captaincy. He said, “We need a break. We will refresh. There will always be pressure, but we have to find the answers within, not outside. Every player has to take responsibility, it is not about one or two players, it is about the entire unit.” On the decision to send Puran in the Super Over, Pant said, “We talked in the group and Nicky’s name came up. He may not be in his best form, but in difficult times we have to trust our players. He can win the match anytime.” After this statement of Pant, fans appeared angry on social media. Many people believe that sending out-of-form Puran in the Super Over was a wrong decision. At the same time, some fans also raised questions on the decision of getting Digvesh Rathi to bowl the last over. After consecutive defeats, LSG is now in danger of being out of the playoff race.
