LPG Cylinder Rules Change May 1: New rules are likely to be implemented for domestic LPG cylinder consumers from the beginning of next month i.e. May 2026. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is now directly impacting India’s gas cylinder consumers. For this reason, the government and oil companies are constantly making changes in the booking and delivery system, so that the supply remains smooth within the country.

First of all, if we talk about prices, LPG cylinders have become expensive in recent times. The price of 14.2 kg domestic cylinder has increased by ₹ 60. At the same time, the price of 19 kg commercial cylinder has increased thrice in a month.

There may be changes in booking rules

In such a situation, prices may change again from May 1, 2026. Regarding this, companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are discussing new rules. Booking rules have also become stricter than before. Now the time between booking gas cylinders has been increased from 21 days to 25 days in cities, while in rural areas it can be up to 45 days.

Apart from this, OTP based delivery system has been implemented, in which the customer is required to tell OTP at the time of gas delivery. There are preparations to make this system permanent, so that black marketing of subsidized cylinders can be stopped.

Rules regarding eKYC also clear

The government has also clarified the rules regarding Aadhaar eKYC. Aadhaar based verification is necessary for the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. However, those who have already completed eKYC will not have to do the process again. PMUY consumers will have to do eKYC once a year, so that they can continue to get the benefit of subsidy.

Emphasis to shift to PNG

The government is now gradually converting people from LPG piped natural gas It is also emphasizing on shifting towards (PNG). In areas where PNG is available, if consumers do not shift to PNG within three months, their LPG connections may be discontinued. Apart from this, people using PNG cannot take a new LPG connection.

Consumers need to stay updated

However, amidst all these changes, the government says that the supply of gas to domestic consumers is completely safe. Important sectors like hospitals, education and agriculture are being given priority. Overall, the rules to LPG may become more strict in the coming time, so it is very important for consumers to stay updated.
