Marcus Rashford reportedly has 'zero plans' for a future outside of continuing with Barcelona, despite a permanent transfer appearing far from certain. The England international is 'confident' he will remain with the Catalan club following his loan spell from Manchester United, according to reports emerging from Spain.
Rashford feels 'settled and valued in a squad he considers the best in the world', per the Barcelona-based outlet Mundo Deportivo. The 28-year-old has featured intermittently in Hansi Flick's starting lineup yet still managed to contribute 13 goals and 11 assists for Barcelona this season.
Barcelona have the option to make Rashford's stay at Camp Nou permanent as part of their loan arrangement with United. The La Liga leaders would need to stump up around £26million to secure the deal.
Rashford's wages look likely to prove a sticking point for Barcelona's hierarchy, who remain mindful of their financial obligations. The loanee is reportedly prepared to slash his salary by almost half, though that concession does not appear sufficient to seal an agreement.
Last week, Marca claimed Rashford was among five players the club are poised to offload as part of a squad overhaul. However, Barca are equally eager to retain experience to support their emerging young talent, and with Robert Lewandowski's future equally uncertain, Rashford could yet fulfil that role.
The Manchester United academy graduate found the net from the bench at the weekend as Barcelona edged closer to securing another league crown. Rashford struck in the 74th minute against Getafe to extend his side's advantage following Fermin Lopez's opener.
Barca manager Flick lauded Rashford's contribution to the triumph. He said: "Marcus came on in the second half and he used the space they give us. We spoke about this at half-time.
"I am happy for the team, for us and also for him that he scored this goal because it was so important for him and also for us.
"We [only] celebrate the victory. It's different. I said to the team before the game, we only focus on the day-to-day, on our job, on what we have to do.
"When we play like this, I am really happy. I appreciate a lot what we do with the ball, but also against the ball. It's not easy here, but today was nearly perfect.
"[The title] is not done. We have five games more and we focus only on the next game. We will celebrate when it's time, not now."
Flick declined to discuss Rashford's future earlier this month. "I'm very happy with Marcus," he said.
"He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal [against Atletico Madrid]. "I can't say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season."
