Sanjay Dutt appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on April 27 after a controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the film KD: The Devil. The track, featuring Nora Fatehi, had been criticised for its lyrics and visuals, which many viewers felt crossed a line in terms of suggestiveness.

The issue first gained attention in March when clips from the song began circulating online. Social media users and some public figures raised concerns about the way the song was presented, prompting the Commission to step in and review the matter on its own.

Sanjay Dutt issues apology to NCW For Sarke Chunar controversy

During his visit, Sanjay Dutt was accompanied by his lawyer, who addressed the media after the meeting. According to his legal team, the actor explained that he was not fully aware of the exact wording of the song at the time it was recorded, as it was originally done in another language.

Despite this, he chose to apologise as a sign of respect towards the Commission and the concerns raised. His lawyer clarified that the apology was made voluntarily and without contesting the matter, showing that the actor did not intend to cause offence.

Sanjay Dutt announces education support

In addition to the apology, Sanjay Dutt also offered to support the education of 50 children from tribal communities. This was described by his legal representative as a personal initiative taken in response to the situation.

The move was positioned as a constructive step, aimed at contributing positively following the backlash rather than engaging in a prolonged dispute.

Commission’s concerns and legal angle

Earlier, the NCW had stated that it took notice of the song based on media reports that suggested the content was inappropriate. The Commission noted that certain elements of the track appeared to be sexually suggestive and could potentially fall under objectionable content as per existing norms.

Based on these concerns, notices were issued to individuals associated with the project, asking them to appear and respond. The Commission’s involvement highlighted the seriousness with which such matters are being addressed.

Song removed amid rising backlash

As criticism around the song intensified, the lyrical video was eventually taken down from YouTube across multiple language versions. The decision came after sustained public reaction and scrutiny.

The track, directed by Prem, was part of a larger film project and had initially been released as a promotional number. However, the response it received led to a reassessment of its presence online.

Nora Fatehi distances herself from the track

Nora Fatehi had earlier reacted to the controversy, making it clear that she did not support the aspects of the song that were being criticised. She acknowledged the backlash and indicated that the pressure from audiences played a role in the video being removed.
