Governing body takes action after Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s angry reaction to controversial dismissal in LSG vs KKR IPL 2026 match

The young batsman also received one demerit point for a Level 1 offense under the league’s code of conduct.

The incident occurred during a tense moment of KKR’s innings when Raghuvanshi was given out for obstructing the field, which immediately caused debate among fans, experts and even KKR members. His apparent anger following his dismissal led to disciplinary action from the IPL governing body.

IPL confirms disciplinary action against Angkrish Raghuvanshi

In an official statement, the IPL confirmed that Raghuvanshi breached Article 2.2 of the code of conduct, which deals with misuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment or fixtures during a match. The statement noted that the batsman admitted the offense and accepted the penalty imposed on him.

“Angkrish Raghuvanshi has been fined 20% of his match fee and also received one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the Code of Conduct,” The statement said.

It was also clarified that the violation was to aggressive activities immediately after his dismissal, in which he hit the boundary cushion with his bat and threw his helmet in frustration while returning to the dugout. As this was a Level 1 offence, the match referee’s decision remains final and binding.

How did the controversial out happen?

The moment happened in the fifth over of KKR’s innings when Raghuvanshi, who had scored nine runs off seven balls, Prince Yadav Played the ball and attempted to take a quick single.

There was confusion with his batting partner at the non-striker’s end, forcing him to return to the middle. As he ran to return to his crease, a sharply bowled ball from Mohammed Shami hit his pads. Lucknow Super Giants immediately appealed, and the on-field umpires referred the matter to the TV umpire.

After multiple replays, the third umpire ruled Raghuvanshi out for obstructing the field, concluding that he changed the direction of his run in such a way that it did not give the throwing side a fair chance to complete the run-out.

 

This dismissal became one of the biggest talking points of the match, with many questioning whether the batsman deliberately changed his direction or simply reacted naturally to save himself in the moment.

Anger in KKR camp

This decision did not sit well in the KKR dugout. Raghuvanshi was clearly dissatisfied and had a brief conversation with the on-field umpires on his way out. His frustration was evident when he threw his helmet towards the dugout and hit the advertising cushion near the boundary rope.

This reaction was not limited to the players only. KKR assistant coach shane watson was seen expressing his displeasure near the boundary line, while the head coach Abhishek Nair Had a heated discussion with the fourth umpire.

The incident adds even more drama to an already intense contest and once again brings the “obstruction in the field” rule in IPL 2026 into the spotlight.
