Rishabh Pant is coming under immense pressure in captaincy of Lucknow Super Giants after another loss in IPL 2026. The team lost in Super Over to Kolkata Knight Riders and yet again continuing the string of poor performances this season.
LSG were restricted from chasing the target of 156 runs and it was their fifth defeat in a row. The home record for LSG has been even worse since Pant took over captaincy from previous season where they have lost eight matches in a row. In total they lost 14 from their last 22 games with him as the captain.
Pant has also not lived up to the expectation with his personal form. He scored 458 runs in 21 innings from previous season having only three half-centuries. He scored 42 in this encounter but was not able to win the game for his team.

Jaffer Demands Change in Captaincy
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has asked for a change in captaincy and said that Aiden Markram could be the choice for leading the team.
Jaffer said:
“I feel a player like Rishabh Pant should play purely as a player. You get the best out of him when you free him up and tell him to just go out and play and win matches on his own. Don’t burden him with captaincy. I think Aiden Markram is a better captain."
He added:
"He has led South Africa very successfully, he is mentally strong, very composed, and I think he can get the best out of the other players. But this doesn’t look like something that will actually happen. This is just my suggestion, but if I were there, that’s what I would do."
Jaffer also shared his views on the team combination and even suggested his favorite batting order in a T20 game with Markram’s calm approach bringing more stability.
Struggles for LSG Continues
Jaffer did not mince his words while he was at it, talking about the team's collective performance he said "LSG seems a lost team and don't have a clear game plan at the moment"
He said:
“LSG looks completely out of place right now, it’s hard to even know what to expect from them. If I were in that dugout, the first thing I would do is make Aiden Markram the captain… That would be my top seven, and I would go with this batting order."
LSG's form has come under fire and with them struggling in their matches and poor home form, it poses questions as the tournament progresses. Whether a change in captaincy will happen or the management sticks with Pant remains to be seen but what has to be done is getting the team back on winning track.
