Lucknow. Lucknow Suzar Giants captain Rishabh Pant said after the fifth consecutive defeat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 that we need a break and every player will have to take responsibility.

“Look, I think we definitely need a break. We will refresh ourselves. There will always be pressure, and it will always be a pressure game. But at the same time, we have to find the answers within ourselves, not outside. We have to keep things simple,” Pant said after Sunday’s upset Super Over loss against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Every player has to take responsibility. It cannot be a matter of one or two players, it is a matter of the entire team. And a lot of people will take responsibility for it, no doubt.” One concern for Lucknow Supergiants has also been the form of Nicholas Pooran, who has so far scored only 82 runs, at an average of 10.25 and a strike rate of 81.18. Despite this, LSG sent Pooran and Pant to bat in the Super Over.

Puran was bowled on the very first ball, while LSG could play only three balls in total. Other batsman Aidan Markram was also out without opening the account.

Pant said, “We had a discussion as a team and the name that came up was that of Nicky P (Pooran). He may not be in the best form of his career at the moment, but in difficult times you have to trust your players. They will bounce back. So there are no excuses. Just have to look at the positives. There may not be many positives to be seen right now, but there will be a lot of positives after the break, that’s for sure.”

On the question of giving the last over to legspinner Rathi, Pant said, “Look, there come such occasions in cricket when you can change the course of the match by bowling. But sometimes a bowler has to bowl difficult overs also. Sometimes I have to give him such overs in the middle overs also. I was looking for the wicket, but did not get it. That was the thinking. And having too many opinions on the field does not make things easier.”
